Apoteca, Quartierie i Flaminia, Rome – Review by HungryOwl
On December 8, 2023 by HungryOwlApoteca is a wine shop and restaurant in one of the residential areas of Roma. Quartierie i Flamina is the nearest residential area to the Stadio Olimpico. All of the homes that we saw were apartments and looking at the style I wouldn’t be surprised if they were built for the Rome Olympics in 1960.
Apoteca is on one of the side streets and has been beautifully fitted out in a traditional style. The owner/manager is one of the waiters, so he has eyes on all of the food leaving the kitchen and hence everything is presented authentically and tastes fabulous.
We visited there on a Bank holiday (8th December 2023) the feast of the Immaculate Conception. The restaurant was full of families with little babies all t he way through the ages to the Nonnas and Nonnos. I think this symbolises the importance and closeness of Italian families compared to some families in the UK.
We settled on 2 simple pasta dishes.
Carbonara – with eggs, Parmesano Reggiano and guanciale
Amatriciana – with a tomato sauce and guanciale.
Both were absolutely amazing – you start to forget when you have been back in England for a while how good pasta is in Italy.
As this was a wine shop it would have been rude not to share a bottle of Italian red wine, Nero di Troia from Puglia.
Service and food were fabulous. If you are in the area for a football or rugby game etc. this is well worth a visit.
