Porketta – Cheltenham
October 2025
I was recommended this takeaway by a friend who knows I love all things Italian — and it did not disappoint!
Firstly, I have to admit I’m not usually a fan of English hot pork rolls. I find them dry and tasteless, often made worse by that cloying, soggy stuffing. So I was a little sceptical at first.
We were greeted by Diego, the owner, who welcomed us with a big smile — the perfect host.
Porchetta (pronounced Porketta) is a Roman dish made from pork belly seasoned with herbs, salt, and pepper, then slow-roasted. Diego’s version is served in a toasted panino with a spicy gravy, rocket, and onions. The meat was succulent, and the spicy gravy was the perfect touch to cut through the richness. Personally, I’d have mine cut in half next time — it’s generous and very filling!
I raved about this sandwich so much that I ended up taking FattyCat the following week. Diego remembered me (and that I don’t like rocket!) which was such a lovely touch. The panino was just as incredible the second time around. I also took home some supplì (rice balls similar to arancini), tiramisu, and a cannolo — everything was absolutely spot on.
Italy is my favourite country to visit, and Rome will always have my heart. To have porchetta and supplì that taste exactly as they do in Rome, right here in the UK, honestly made me so happy I could have cried. The tiramisu and cannoli were equally authentic and delicious.
Perfetto. Buonissimo
