Bills, Worcester – review by HungryOwl
On May 29, 2021 by HungryOwlLockdown is easing and we can now sit inside to dine. We avoided the 1st weekend of the relaxation knowing it would be very busy, but to be honest booking a table for the 2nd weekend wasn’t easy and we ended up booking at Bills. Despite now being able to dine inside, we decided to sit outside in the square infront of the restaurant in Crowngate.
We started by ordering drinks – Bill’s Beer for Fatty Cat and I treated myself to a Turino Spritz. The spritz was light and refreshing. It contained a Bergamo Apertivo, Prosecco and lemon verbena, Fatty cat said the beer had a proper ‘beery taste’ similar to Trooper.
Fatty Cat ordered Steak, Eggs and fries for his mains. The steak was a skinny minute steak which has been nicely seasoned and flashed in the pan, this is not the sort of steak to over cook.
I ordered the Fish and Chips from the specials menu – The minted crushed peas with feta cheese, were a revelation. I had expected to taste them and leave them , but they were delightful and appart from the forkful that Fatty Cat tasted I ate them all. The fish was chunky cod Goujons, these were prehaps cooked in oil that was a little too hot as the breadcrumbs were very rough and scratchy in the mouth, there was also some perfectly cooked Calamari with a spice breadcrumb coating these had been cooked spot on.
We paused for another drink before dessert and this time I decided to try the Rhubarb and Rose Collins (Vodka, Rhubarb liqueur and Rose Tinture) aother lovely summer drink and this one was served in a Highball glass.
Dessert was a gooey chocolate brownie and vanilla Ice Cream – it was very good and definety needed the double Espresso to wash it down.
Service was exceptional, Henry our waiter was attentive and had a great sense of humour and hospitality.
