Claude Choules, Pershore – Review by HungryOwl
On July 1, 2023 by HungryOwlPershore is a cute little town in Worcestershire. It is one of the few places that still has many local independant shops and artisan food sellers.
After wandering around the shops for the morning we went to find lunch and following recommedations from the Facebook group, Worcetershire Foodies, we went to Claude Choules. It was upstairs and I’m not sure if there is a lift for less able people.
We were greeted by a smiling and welcoming waitress who showed us to a table by the balcony doors which gave us a perfect view of the High Street and the square.
Drinks
- Old Mout Berries & Cherries £4.75
- Beavertown Gamma Ray £5.20
Food
BIG BANGER £9.50 – An eight inch charred pork sausage, caramelised onions, pulled pork, streaky maple bacon, mustard mayo
The quality of the meat and it’s flavour really stood out. Bonue for me was that there was so much bacon that FattyCat actually gave me a whole slice (never in the history of man has FattyCat shared bacon). I have to say that the bacon was pretty special.
Fries were an extra £3.75. They were skin on fries and a decent sized portion.
I wasn’t so lucky with my food. I ordered Nachos ‘VEGAN DELIGHT’ – this was described as ‘Vegan cheddar, chilli, spring onion’ – I asked for the vegan cheddar to be be swapped for standard cheddar, which was not a problem. What I received was fries with melted cheese, sliced green chillies and spring onions. I was expecting ‘vegan chilli’ as vegan version of chilli con carne, not sliced chillies. I had been having a pretty rubbish week and was too exhausted to complain – however I have th say the skin on fries and cheese was lovely – I did donate the sliced chillies to FattyCat, not really a fair swap for the bacon (LOL) Cost £5.
This may not have been a perfect experience – but what we were servered was quality and tasty; the staff were all lovely and the decor was quirky. This place definitely has a great vibe.
I think I would like to return when the footy season kicks off. I’m sure it’s a great place to watch a game and graze on the yummy food.
A foot note to anyone with a Blue Card – you can get a 30% discount on food.
