Farmer Johns, Streetly – Review by Hungry Owl
On January 13, 2020 by HungryOwlFarmer John’s is just off the busy Queslett Road, but far enough back that you can’t hear the traffic. The outside eating area over looks fields and even in winter the view is quite pretty. There is ample parking but only two disabled spots.
The seating area is well spaced so the people on the table next to you don’t feel like they are joining you for lunch/dinner. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The menu is a 2-4-1, so when there are three people it makes the one meal very expensive.
On this occasion there were three of us so two ordered meals and one a lite bite,
Liver and Bacon with onion gravy and mash £11.95
Fish and Chips £12.95
The liver was nicely cooked and well presented on the plate, but the fish had been cooked in oil that was far to hot causing the batter to be very crispy and the fish was dried up.
The third meal was a steak and onion melt £6.50. This was served in a baguette with nachos and a few leaves on the side. It was nicely presented and to be honest from the appearance I thought I had ordered well. The steak was cooked ‘medium’ and the colour certainly looked right – but the meat was nearly impossible to eat. It was so tough and chewy that I gave up and removed a lot of it and just ate the baguette with the onion, leaves and cheese.
You can order refillable soft drinks, non alcoholic beers, coffees and the usual beers, ciders and spirits – so choice on the beverage front is huge.
