Franco Manca, Bristol – Review by Hungry Own
On August 27, 2023 by HungryOwlFranco Manca is situated in the St Nicholas Market area of Bristol. This area is full of bars, coffee shops and eateries. The Market itself is split into 2 areas one selling clothes and gifts from around the world and the other an area of stalls selling street food from around the world. On a Saturday lunchtime the entire area was humming with activity and smelled amazing.
However, due to lack of seating around the street area we choose to eat in one of the restaurants nearby. Franco Manca is a pizzeria that has been open for 16 years , specializing in Sour Dough thin crust pizzas.
We order 2 pizzas with the intention of swapping half way through.
I started with the Ragu Pizza – the description read “Slow-cooked beef ragù, organic tomato, mozzarella, cheese sauce, crispy pancetta & fresh basil” The ragu was great good, the cheese sauce was tasty, but I’m not sure it’s something I would have on a pizza again and there was no crispy pancetta. Overall it was ok
The second pizza was Salami – the description read “Lightly smoked beechwood spicy salami, organic tomato, mozzarella, caramelised red onions, homemade Franco’s chilli oil & fresh basil” we opt to have this without the chilli oil, as there was chilli oil on the table if needed. I took a small bite with half a slice of the salami and that was me done. It was so fiery that the devil himself would have struggled to eat it. Which is a shame as the pizza itself looked amazing. Even FattyCat gave up, which is unknown in the history of mankind.
We shared a bottle of rose which was pleasant enough.
Total cost was about £50.
The highlight of the pizzeria is the staff – they are happy and helpful; plus they have a sense of humour.
