Origin, Worcester – Review by Hungry Owl
On February 16, 2024 by HungryOwlOrigin is a new restaurant in Worcester that has opened Lowesmoor. The menu is Afro-Caribbean.
I miss the food that my school friends mom’s use to cook for us when we were studying at their houses – I haven’t ever been able to find a restaurant that cook genuine home cooked Caribbean food. This is where Origin warmed my heart and took me straight back to my teens.
Fatty Cat ordered the Curried Goat – it had a depth of flavour and a heat that contrasted so well with the sweet meat of the Goat.
I ordered the seafood stew – which was packed with a variety of firm meaty fish and shellfish in a spicy broth – my mind was blown with the fabulous flavour.
We shared a portion of Rice and Peas – which was lovely, but was missing the hint of coconut which my friend’s mom always added. But this was only thing that slightly different from my childhood memories.
We were both quite full so we shared a dessert, which was the Apple and Cinnamon cheesecake. The flavour was spot on, but the base was a little too thick which made it a very heavy dessert.
Whilst we were finishing our drinks and mulling over the excellent meal, the chef came out to chat to us. She was so lovely and seemed really pleased when I said it was the most authentic Caribbean food that I had in 40 years.
