Real Burger, Cheltenham -Review by HungryOwl

On March 5, 2017 by HungryOwl

Yesterday we decided after watching an appalling game of football in one of the High Street establishments that we needed a ‘proper’ burger to cheer us us. I asked Google and it recommended Real Burger a 6 minute walk away.

To be honest we walked up Winchcombe  Street as we peered into the distance we couldn’t see anything in the dark that resembled an eatery once we had passed the Thai Restaurant on our left. We approached a small shop with a large window and there were three guys sat in the window gorging handfuls of burger into their face. We smiled at each other and walked into the unassuming little eatery. The counter is at the back of the store and so you wander passed the rustic furniture, the modern art and the two bear brick fireplaces – all of which create a homely uncomplicated feel.

I must say some extra lighting on the menu board would be, so you could read the green chalk would have been nice. But the guy behind the counter was happy and helpful. He also warned us up front that there was a 30 minute wait. We ordered a 4oz and a 8oz meal deal. The burgers are all handmade onsite from local Gloucestershire Beef, with Gloucester Old Spot Bacon and chips are rustic with their skins still on.

There is a choice of alcoholic and soft drinks.

The food arrived with the burgers wrapped in grease proof paper and the fries in little tin dishes. Everything tasted amazing and looked good – even though my bun was a little creased. My only criticism considering we were 12 foot from the kitchen and we were only one of two tables with diners (everyone else was having take out) the food could have a lot warmer.

We both enjoyed our burgers with bacon and cheese – and there was definite size difference – so guys it’s worth paying the £2 extra if you have a bigger appetite; but honestly the 4oz was enough for me. The meat was moist and tasty, the salad crisp and the bread fresh. The chips with the skin on were crispy and so tasty.

My little bit is excitement was when I realized they sold my favourite San Pelegrino soft drink – Blood Orange.

I think we will be visiting here again.
