The Smoke Haus – Brindley Square Birmingham

On April 28, 2018 by HungryOwl

We pre-booked a table at 5:30pm on Friday evening as we were off to the NIA (Barclaycard Arena) for a gig. This gave us 90 mins for a meal and drink.

The restaurant is upstairs opposite Cafe Rouge and can be accessed by stairs or elevator. The decor is really cool – bare bricks with graffiti and photos. As soon as we emerged from the elevator we were greeted by a friendly welcome and we both laughed as we saw the photo directly behind the guy was of the Manic Street Preachers – the band we were off to see.

The table that was in front of a window over looking the pedestrian bridge to Symphony Hall – so we could people watch whilst waiting.

We ordered a pitcher of Coors Light (4pts) for £12.95 – which seems a good price compared to what we pay for a pint of the same beer in Worcester. We didn’t want to over eat as we were going to be jumping and dancing later – hence I ordered a steak and philly sub which arrived with skin on fries and coleslaw. FattyCat had a Dirty Sanchez burger again with fries and coleslaw.

The sub was amazing stuffed with loads of melt in the mouth steak, fried onions, red peppers (I removed these) and the philly cheese. It was totally amazing and I would happily order it again. The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The coleslaw was chunky and creamy; the same as the deli version from Waitrose.

FattyCat had a massive single 200g burger, Swiss cheese, onions, roquito peppers, guacamole, sour cream & spicy mojo ketchup. The bread did not appear to have been toasted and hence it was all a bit sloppy – but FattyCat just kept eating and saying it tastes amazing. I now know why there was kitchen roll on every table! I left about 60% of my fries and FattyCat left about 10% – just so many. I think if they had given us one tray of chips to share it would have been ample. The prices were extremely reasonable £12.95 for Dirty Sanchez and £11.95 for  Philly Cheese Sub.

I stacked the trays and a waitress came over and asked if she could take them away, so we could relax with our beers. Perfect service.

The staff were really polite, friendly and prompt when we asked for the bill.

The music in the background was a perfect level to allow you chat and yet hear the music.

I loved this place – fab food, fab atmosphere and reasonable prices.
