Turtle Bay, Birmingham – review by HungryOwl
On July 22, 2021 by HungryOwlLockdown is over, for how long no one knows. But the good news is that the theatres and restaurants are back in business.
Finally after 3 postponements we got to go to see the show the Alexandra Theatre – so where to go before the show that would have food and cocktails? Answer was Turtle Bay in John Bright Street.
I prebooked as I had no idea how busy the place would be on a Thursday at 5pm. We were greeted at the door by a happy friendly chap who guided us to our table. I noticed that most tables were already seated, so it was necessary to book.
Early evening meant 2 -4-1 on cocktails and mocktails. It would have been rude to decline the offer so I started with 2 Reggea Rum Punch. This was a powerfull kick of alcohol and very fruity at the same time. Fatty Cat decided to try a Jamaican Pale Ale, which in my opinion was just weird – kind of sour tasting.
Food…..
Starter we had a portion of Jerk Pit Ribs to share. They were amazing. Sticky, fruity, sweet and spicy. We both said that we wished we had ordered a portion each.
Mains. I had the Fish Fry – It was no problem to swap the potatoe fries for sweet potatoe fries, then these were servered with a large portion of Calamari and a lightly floured and seasoned salmon steak both were perfectly cooked . This was accompanied by mild jerk mayo – seriously if they start selling this I’m buying an entire crate.
Fattycat had the Shack Stack Burger – which was large beef patty with bacon, cheese and spicy BBQ Sauce and served with Spiced fries. He kept saying ‘this is so good’ after every mountful.
Service was amazing throughout the visit with everyonelooking like they were happy and enjoying the music.
It was shame to have to leave to see the show.
It’s rare we rebook a restaurant so close together but we have in this case rebooked to return on the 9th August.
