Zizzi’s, Worcester – Review by HungryOwl
On July 24, 2019 by HungryOwlI pre-booked a table for Saturday evening at 7:30pm a week in advance. I received my email confirmation at point of booking and I received a reminder email at 12 noon on the day saying “We can’t wait to see you!” Shame that someone at the restaurant didn’t know. We arrived 5 mins early and there was no sign of my name on the list.
I had booked early as there are four separate rooms and two of the rooms are very noisy and hot – I had specifically request a quieter table. However, since there was no booking we were popped onto a tiny table in the corner of the noisiest of the room – we should have just left and gone somewhere else, but we had never had a bad experience here before.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful when we asked questions about the menu.
I ordered a Ciao Bella cocktail – which was just perfect for a hot summer’s evening.
Starters – Soul bread with a cheese dip (presented perfectly and tasted yummy)
Mains – FattyCat had his usual Pizza Rustica Piccante (it was missing it’s usual jalapenos) and the salami was milder in flavour than usual. I had the Pork Belly Arosto with greens and Cheesy mash (there was no cheese in the mash and Pork Belly was burnt to a crisp at the one end, plus I was missing the crackling).
Desserts – FattyCat had Tiramisu, which was its usual portion size and taste. I ordered the Golden Honeycomb Cheesecake, that had been advertised on their Facebook page all week. I really wish I hadn’t fallen for their marketing – it looked like a dogs dinner (nothing like the picture) I had 2 meringues not 3, which tasted like sweaty feet and it was drizzled with a dark chocolate sauce not a toffee sauce. The cheesecake itself just tasted of butter and fat. I was so glad I had ordered a coffee to get rid of the taste.
No idea why things have changed so much here – excellent customer service doesn’t make up for poor food.
