Going in Style – review by FattyCat
On April 9, 2017 by HungryOwlGoing in Style is a movie that follows three friends who had worked together and are now retired. Willie (Morgan Freeman), Joe (Michael Caine) and Albert (Alan Arkin) find out that their pension fund has been ‘frozen’ and the fund is being used by their bank to pay off the creditors of their previous employer – thus leaving the three old timers with no income. Joe is threaten with eviction from the home he shares with is daughter and granddaughter, Willie needs money to pay for his dialysis treatment and to visit his family who live the other side of the USA and Albert well, he just wants enough money to be able to order a piece of pie when he wants one.
There is one little gripe about the story line – but I suppose it’s more a gripe about casting. Joe (Michael Caine) supposed worked for the company for 40 years and has been retired 10 or so years – so after 50 plus of living in the USA you would expect him to sound a little less like a Londoner??
Of course the acting is brilliant, these guys haven\’t been starring in the movie business all these years for no reason and they also have a great supporting cast. I do want to add a special mention two of the children in the movie who are fabulous – Joey King (Joe’s Granddaughter) and Annabell Chow (the little girl in bank at the time of the robbery). Another old timer who made me laugh in every scene of the movie he was in was Christopher Lloyd.
It’s not going to win masses of awards, but it is a funny, clever and emotional story.
