Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – Review by FattyCat

I am not one who usually likes modern films, which is ironic given this is a movie review site. However Guardians of the Galaxy was a really good, enjoyable two hours. It follows on fairly nicely from the first film and I wont really give much of the plot away because you can find that easily enough elsewhere online.
It has the usual wisecracks, cool space battles and action you’d expect from the franchise. On a side note, Drax played by Dave Batista is actually quite good. Usually former pro wrestlers suck when they go into acting but he manages to play awkward goofy quite well.
What interested me was the story between Peter (Chris Pratt) who I have incidentally always liked since Parks and Recreation and his “dad” played by Kurt Russell. What struck me most is that Ego (Kurt Russell) is a God, or more importantly, THE God. It reminds me of Gnosticism. How the Demiurge or “fake God” created all matter for his own amusement and benefit, trapping the sheer essence of mankind, or soul, within it. He reveals his plan to have his son, Peter join him in creating a new universe which fails after Ego reveals he planted he tumour into Chris’ mothers brain.
The battle happens and…. well go watch the movie for the ending.
Overall it was a good way to spend two hours and I want to give special mention to Yondu (Michael Rooker) I have been a fan of him since he was in Mallrats, and obviously more recently as Merle in The Walking Dead. He is such a good slightly edgy bad guy character.
Remember, watch the film and don’t push that button! (which will make sense if you see the film or trailer).
